Located in the heart of the French Alps, Châtel bike park is one of the most famous bike parks in the world. Its reputation and large number of trails, with options for all levels of riders, all help to place it at the top of many mountain bikers riding wishlists.
Châtel bike park sits on the border between France and Switzerland, on the French side. It is part of the famous "Portes du Soleil" ski area, which includes no less than five bike parks and 12 stations! It is home to many other top resorts like Les Gets, Morzine, Avoriaz on the French side. And Champéry-Morgins on the Swiss side. All these resorts are connected by MTB trails and chairlifts.
Out of all the bike parks in the Portes du Soleil, Châtel is the largest, and home to around 20 official trails with options for all levels of riders: from entertaining green trails for beginners to build up skills and confidence. To the black trails, for expert riders to push their limits. And overall, there is a higher proportion of these trails made for more experienced riders compared to beginners. In fact, out of the 19 trails, there are 13 red and black trails, compared to 6 blue and green trails.
But that's enough from us, the best way to discover Châtel and see what the trails are really like is to watch the videos we have made, and make your own opinions.
Châtel is the most "difficult" bike park to access in the Portes du Soleil area if you are driving from the French side. It is located at the end of a valley, in the commune of Pré La Joux, which you get to after driving through the village of Châtel.
